Key Steps

Start by confirming that the point count is actually what's blocking you. Open the saved field in Smart Ag 60 and look at the boundary. A field that has collected too many points shows a dense run of markers packed along the edge, usually on a curve or a rounded corner where the points were captured continuously instead of placed individually. Count the mapped points along the boundary and compare that against the maximum a single field supports. This can be triggered by the boundary points, the obstacles, and the no-spray zones. The field itself will still display and still save when it is over the limit, so nothing looks wrong until you try to generate the task — that is why this error catches operators off guard in the field.

Re-map the field. Do not try to fix the existing boundary by deleting points one at a time. Trimming points individually is slow, and every deletion has to be verified against the field edge before the next one, which is difficult to do accurately on the remote controller screen in daylight. Correctly remapping the boundary takes less time than editing a bad one and leaves you with a field you can trust for the rest of the season.

Map the boundary again and place a point only where the field edge changes direction. On a genuinely curved edge, place points at intervals along the curve rather than capturing every position you pass through. A handful of well-placed points holds the shape closely enough to spray accurately, and it generates a cleaner route with fewer turns than a boundary built from hundreds of points.

Keep the original field saved until the new one validates. If the re-map comes up short on acreage or misses a corner, you still have the old boundary on screen to compare against. 

A small number of fields are irregular enough that even a correctly mapped boundary runs past the limit. For those, map the field as two or more separate fields and run a task on each. Put the dividing line along something the operator can pick out from the air — a terrace, a waterway, an access road — so the seam is easy to verify in flight. Check that seam once the first task finishes, because a dividing line that does not match between the two fields leaves either an unsprayed strip or a double-sprayed strip down the middle of the field.

The task should now validate, and the drone is ready to begin the operation.

Cautionary Notes

A re-mapped boundary is a new boundary, so check the acreage against the work order before you spray. Mark every obstacle, exclusion zone, and no-spray area on the new field as you go — those do not carry over from the old boundary, and a missed one puts the drone back over the obstacle. Where you place points at intervals along a curve, the boundary between them runs straight, so confirm the new line does not cut into the crop or extend past the field edge. The drone flies the boundary exactly as drawn.

Tips for Efficiency

Map corners, not curves. A boundary built from direction changes stays well under the point limit and sprays the same field in fewer turns. On fields you spray every season, re-map once and keep the corrected boundary rather than working around a bad one on every visit. Checking the point count on a newly mapped field is also worth doing at the truck, not while standing in front of a loaded drone with the pump primed.
