How to Adjust Steering Control Parameters - HD408 Auto Steer

This guide outlines the steps to adjust control parameters for the HD408 system to ensure optimal performance during operation.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Onto line sensitivity, Online Sensitivity, and Steering attack adjustment are the main 3 parameters that should be adjusted.
  • If the tractor is swerving, over correcting, or losing the AB line, you should gradually adjust each of  the 3 parameters individually and test in an open area.
  • Reduce the parameter sensitivity if the machine is swerving erratically or if the wheel is overcorrecting.

Key Steps

  •  Ensure Quick calibration process has been successfully completed
  • Take a photo to document your stock parameters in case a reset is needed in the future.

  1. Access Control Tab 0:15
  • Click on the Control tab on the right side of the screen.
  • You will see two modes: General Control Mode and Full Adaptation Mode.
  • Select Full Adaptation Mode for a wider range of sensitivities.

Control Parameters:

On-to-Line Sensitivity 0:53

  • This parameter determines how quickly the system locks onto the next target guideline when turning.
  • Recommendation: Adjust by +/- 10 points if needed.

Online Sensitivity 1:29

  • This parameter determines how much deviation from the current guideline is allowed before correction is applied.
  • If the tractor swerves, reduce both On-to-Line and Online Sensitivity.
  • Recommendation: Adjust by +/- 5 points each time.

Heading Sensitivity 2:06
  • This parameter determines the turning angle used during adjustments.
  • Recommendation: Adjust by 1 or 2 points each time. Keep it stock unless more turning compensation is needed.

Strategy Weight 2:32
  • This parameter amplifies or reduces the sensitivity of all other parameters based on conditions.
  • Recommendation: Increase if operating in unfavorable conditions (e.g., wet fields).

Steering Attack Adjustment 3:15

  • This parameter determines how frequently and rapidly the wheel turns when compensating for deviation.
  • Recommendation: Keep this between 2 and 4 for smooth operation. Adjust 1 point at a time.

3.  Save Adjustments 3:45

  • After adjusting parameters, make sure to press the OK button to save changes.

4.  Adjusting U-Turn Parameters 3:57

  • Go to the U-Turn Menu and click on U-Turn Parameters.
  • Adjust the Turning Radius based on your tractor's specifications (Google your tractor model for correct radius).
  • Adjust the Number of Skip Turns based on your operational needs.
  • Press the OK button to save changes.

 Tips for Effective adjustments

  • Make small incremental adjustments to parameters to avoid drastic changes in performance.
  • Perform several tests in the field after adjusting parameters and tweak until desired performance is achieved.
  • Regularly review and adjust parameters based on field conditions to maintain optimal performance.
