Charger in DJI D12000i detects the battery and begins charging but slow charges due to the engine not being able to rev up.
Cause:
- The EFI throttle body servo that controls the butterfly that allows air in the intake of the generator went bad.
- This will make the generator run rich, and will allow you to physically be able to rev up the generator by manually opening the butterfly.
Diagnosing:
- See if the exhaust smells like gasoline or if the exhaust smokes (white or black) with a battery connected and charging.
- This will allow you to tell if the engine on the generator is running rich (not enough air for the amount of gas being injected into the engine for clean combustion).
- Next remove the airbox cover and look at the EFI throttle body while the generator is trying to charge a battery and see if the butterfly of the throttle body is opening when the generator is trying to charge.
- The butterfly is the flap inside of the throttle body (which looks like a carburetor) that controls the amount of air let in the intake to mix with the fuel and rev up the motor.
Solutions:
- Replace the EFI throttle body.
- This is done by removing the 2 nuts under the airbox cover by the paper air filter, then the bolt under the foam air filter and moving the air box out of the way.
- Next you will remove the fuel hose and pull the throttle body out so you can disconnect the two wire harnesses which will allow you to pull the throttle body off.
- Make sure when reinstalling the new throttle body to put the gaskets back in the correct position to avoid creating a vacuum leak that will cause other incorrect operation errors.
