RTK Signal Weak

The drone is saying that it can not take off because the RTK signal is weak. Most of the time this goes away if you let the drone sit for a few seconds but if not there are a few causes.

Cause:

  1. The drone needs a few seconds for RTK and GPS to get a position lock.
  2. The drone has no GPS signal
  3. One or both RTK antennas are damaged.
  4. RTK coaxial cable running frame is damaged.
  5. The RF module is damaged.

Diagnosing:

  1. Make sure the drone is not being obstructed.
  2. Check and see if there is any damage on the RTK antennas or the coaxial cables that run through the frame.
  3. If there is no visible damage to any of the other components, try the RF module

Solutions:

  1. First, you wanna make sure the drone is not being obstructed by any structure and allow it a minute to get a good signal.
  2. Change out one or two of the RTK antennas.
    1. See if either the RTK antenna is cracked or the wire from them is.
  3. Run the Coaxial cable on the outside of the frame to see if the one in the frame is damaged.
  4. If neither the coaxial cable nor the RTK antenna is damaged swap out RF modules.

Conclusion:

If the aircraft is not allowing you to take off due to the RTK signal weak there are a few solutions. Usually, it means that the RTK antennas themselves have been damaged. Check and see if any of the plastic covering is cracked, because that can allow moisture to get in. Next, run RTK Coaxial cables along the outside of the drone to see if the cables in the frame are actually ruined. RF module would be the next step.
