When starting the field task with a spreader tank, the gate shows that it is open but nothing comes out.
Cause:
- The hopper gate is not on correctly.
- The spreader system needs to recalibrated
- The first calibration was not properly done, or there was a fault.
- The discharge rate was set to low, it appears that the gate is not opening
- A mistake was made when setting the task up.
- Bad servo module on the spreader.
- In manual route mode the open percent is set to 0. With this set to 0 it will not open in route mode.
Diagnosing:
- If the hopper gate was not put on correctly it wont open up all the way, or not at all, even if the controller says it is open
- Sometimes the calibration is faulty and the product needs to be recalibrated
- You can test to see if your target rate only allows for the gate to open to such a low percentage that it actually doesn't open enough to allow product to flow.
- The servo fails to move the gate open or closed
Solutions
- To fix the gate, make sure during assembly that the notches on the gate and gear are lined up. Follow the video on how to properly install (linked below).
- Recalibrate the spreader system.
- Increase the pounds per acre on the remote and check to see if the gate opens and allows the product to flow freely. (If this works, recommend swapping the hopper gate to a smaller size)
- If the servo module is extremely hard to turn then the module is most likely bad. Replace servo to solve the issue.
- Turn open % up to 100 if it was on 0.
Conclusion:
There are a variety of reasons for why this happens. It is important to clearly identify the reason to ensure a proper solution is determined. If you installed a new gate, the first step would be to make sure that the disk was installed correctly. If no gate was swapped, recheck your desired settings to ensure your rate is sufficient for the gate installed. Lastly, recalibrate the spreader system and try again.
