EA Vision Remote Controller – Google HD Map Not Loading
EA Vision Remote Controller – Google HD Map Not Loading
Symptom
The Google HD satellite map layer on the EA Vision remote controller fails to load, displays blank/gray tiles, or is intermittently unavailable. The issue may come and go on a day-to-day basis and is not specific to any one controller or location.
Cause
The Google HD map layer requires an active internet connection to pull satellite imagery tiles from Google's servers. Intermittent outages are typically caused by one of the following:
- Backend service disruption – EA Vision's Google Maps API key may be hitting daily request quotas or rate limits, especially during peak spraying season when many controllers are requesting map data simultaneously.
- Google Maps server-side outage – Google's tile servers occasionally experience temporary disruptions that resolve on their own within hours.
- No cellular/Wi-Fi signal – The controller cannot load map tiles without an internet connection, which is common in rural operating areas.
Troubleshooting Steps
- Check internet connectivity on the controller. Verify the controller has an active cellular or Wi-Fi connection. If there is no signal, map tiles cannot load.
- Wait and retry. If you have internet connectivity and the map still won't load, the issue is likely on the backend (EA Vision or Google). Give it some time — it typically resolves within a few hours.
- Pre-cache maps over Wi-Fi before heading to the field. Connect the controller to Wi-Fi, open the app, and navigate to the job site location on the map. Allow the satellite tiles to fully load. Cached tiles should remain available in the field even without an internet connection.
- Switch to a different map layer. The EA Vision app supports multiple map sources. If Google HD is unavailable, try switching to a different layer such as standard Google Maps or Mapbox. Navigate to the map settings in the app and select an alternate layer. This can serve as a reliable workaround while Google HD is down.
- Restart the controller. A reboot can sometimes clear a stale map cache or refresh the connection to Google's servers.
- Check with other controllers. If multiple controllers in the fleet are experiencing the same issue at the same time, it confirms a backend/server-side problem rather than a hardware or local connectivity issue.
