J100 Connecting and Troubleshooting Charging Station

This article contains how to connect to J100 charging station to view if modules are working correctly. Also a step by step guide on troubleshooting the charging station.

How to Identify a Faulty Power Module in Your Charging Station via the Device Interface

When your charging station isn’t performing correctly, one of the key steps to diagnosing the issue is identifying whether Module 1 (upper) or Module 2 (lower) is failing. Using your device’s interface, you can access real-time voltage and current data from each module to pinpoint the problem quickly. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the process.

Step 1: Connect to the Charging Station

Start by launching your device interface and following these steps:

  1. Navigate to the "Device" section.

  2. Go to "Charger".

  3. Select and connect to the specific charger you’re diagnosing.

Once connected, scroll down to view detailed data from the charging modules.

Step 2: Review Power Data for Each Module

After connecting:

  • Look at the readings for Module 1 and Module 2.

  • You should see voltage input and amp output for each.

In the first example:

  • Module 1 shows voltage coming in, but zero amps going out.

  • Module 2 shows both voltage in and amps out.

This means Module 1 is receiving power but is not functioning correctly—a likely indicator of a faulty power module.

Step 3: Swap the Charger and Compare

To confirm the issue:

  1. Unplug the current charger and plug in a different one.

  2. Reconnect to the new charger via your device:

    • Go to Device > Charger.

    • Tap Scan in an open area.

    • Select the new charging station and connect.

Scroll down again to review the module data

Step 4: Interpret the Results

In this second example:

  • Module 2 (lower) is completely dead.

  • There is no voltage input and no amp output, indicating it is not receiving or passing any power.

This confirms a total failure of Module 2 on that particular charger.

Troubleshooting Your Charging Station: Identifying a Bad Power Supply

When your charging station isn't functioning properly, the issue could be due to a faulty internal power supply. In this guide, we'll walk through the steps for diagnosing and identifying a bad power module within your charging station.

Troubleshooting Your Charging Station: Identifying a Bad Power Supply

When your charging station isn't functioning properly, the issue could be due to a faulty internal power supply. In this guide, we'll walk through the steps for diagnosing and identifying a bad power module within your charging station.

1. Recognize the Error Indicators

The first sign of a problem may come from the status lights on your charging station. If you notice the battery and status lights alternating flashes, that’s a signal there’s an internal issue. This typically indicates a power delivery problem from one of the station’s modules.

2. Access the Power Supplies

To begin troubleshooting:

  • Locate the filter plate and cover on the back bottom side of your charging station.

  • Remove the four screws securing the plate.

  • Once the cover is off, you will be able to access the internal power supply modules.

In the example shown, the technician had already removed the power leads to the bottom unit. The result was clear:

  • The top module had two green lights, indicating it was receiving power.

  • The bottom module had no lights, confirming it wasn’t receiving power and was likely the faulty component.

3. Confirm by Disconnecting Power Leads

Removing the power leads from the suspect unit is one method to isolate the issue. However, the screws for these leads are often tight and located in hard-to-reach areas. A small Phillips ratchet and needle nose pliers may be necessary to loosen them.

4. Alternative Method: Use the Plug Connections

If removing the leads from the power supply is too difficult, there’s another method:

  • Go to the amp plug on your fitting station.

  • Pull back the heat shrink tubing as needed.

  • Disconnect one power lead from each module, making sure to choose the same side for both.

  • Plug the station back in and observe:

    • If the top module lights up and functions properly, it’s likely that the bottom module is the problem.

  • Reconnect the original leads and swap: disconnect the other two leads instead.

    • Plug in again and see if the alternate module now lights up or has issues.

This comparison helps verify which specific power module is failing.
