J100 CPU: How to Replace the Right Side Plug Assembly

This article covers the step-by-step process for removing the right side plug assembly from the CPU on the EAV J100

Objective

This SOP explains how to safely remove the right-side plug assembly from a J-100 CPU for transfer or replacement. Follow these steps carefully to avoid damaging the main board, connectors, or surrounding components.

Key Steps

1. Identify the Correct Side of the J-100 CPU 0:00

  • Confirm you are working on the right side of the J-100 CPU.
  • The right side is the SIM card side.
  • Verify the unit before beginning disassembly to ensure you are removing the correct assembly.

2. Remove the Back Plate Screws and Back Plate 0:14

  • Remove the six screws securing the back plate.
  • Lift the back plate off once the screws are removed.
  • Set the screws and back plate aside in a safe location for reassembly.

3. Remove the Eight Border Phillips Screws from the Main Board 0:39

  • Locate the eight Phillips head screws around the border of the main board.
  • Remove all eight screws in a controlled manner.
  • Keep the screws organized so they can be reinstalled later.

4. Disconnect the Main Plug and Release the Board 1:04

  • Identify the plug and connection that must be removed to free the right-side plugs.
  • Press down the black clip and push the connector out.
  • Locate the silicone around the second clip area and carefully remove it with tweezers if needed.
  • Pry the connector up gently and avoid rushing to prevent damage.

5. Lift the Main Board Out of the Way 1:45

  • Once the connectors are free, carefully lift the main board.
  • Move it aside just enough to create working space.
  • Do not force the board; ensure all clips and connections are fully released first.

6. Remove the Four Screws from the Right-Side Plug Assembly 1:58

  • Locate the four screws securing the right-side plug assembly.
  • Remove screws one through four.
  • After removal, the plug assembly should be loose enough to move.

7. Pull the Right-Side Plug Assembly Free 2:13

  • Gently pull the plug assembly outward.
  • Feed the cords through carefully as you remove the assembly.
  • Confirm the right-side plug assembly is fully detached and ready for transfer to another CPU or storage.

Cautionary Notes

  • Do not rush when removing clips or prying connectors; the board and connectors can be damaged easily.
  • Use tweezers carefully when removing silicone or adhesive material.
  • Make sure all screws are removed before attempting to lift any board or connector.
  • Handle the main board gently to avoid bending or stressing components.
  • Keep all screws and parts organized by removal step to simplify reassembly.

Tips for Efficiency

  • Use a magnetic parts tray or labeled containers to separate screws by step.
  • Keep tweezers and a small pry tool nearby before starting.
  • Take a quick photo of each stage before removal to help with reassembly.
  • Work slowly and methodically to reduce the risk of damaging clips or connectors.
  • Verify the SIM-card side before starting so you do not disassemble the wrong side.
