      J100 How to Remove, Troubleshoot, and Install Lidar

      This article outlines the steps for removing, troubleshooting and replacing the LiDAR unit on the J100 to ensure accurate operation and data collection

       

      J100 Removing and Installing Lidar

      Key Steps

       

      Identify LiDAR Units 0:12

      • There are two LiDAR units:

        • Forward LiDAR: Upper, forward-facing unit.

        • Downward LiDAR: Lower, downward-facing unit for height and obstacle detection.

      Initial Troubleshooting Steps 0:32

      • If you suspect a problem with the LiDAR:

        • Remove the LiDAR unit from the drone.

        • Shake the unit gently to check for rattling sounds.

        • If rattling is heard, the unit may be damaged and should be replaced.

      Removing the LiDAR Unit 2:13

      • Tools needed:

        • 2.5mm bit

        • Extension tool (optional for better access)

      • Steps to remove the LiDAR:

        1. Remove the four screws holding the LiDAR in place.

        2. If necessary, pull back the front cowling to access the LiDAR.

        3. Disconnect the power and signal plug by pushing down the relief tab.

       

      Checking the LiDAR for Damage 4:42

      • After removing the LiDAR:

        • Shake the unit gently to confirm no rattling.

        • If there is rattling, replace the unit.

       

      Installing the LiDAR Unit 5:03

      • Steps for installation:

        1. Connect the power and signal plug back into the LiDAR.

        2. Position the LiDAR into its designated slot ensuring it fits properly.

        3. Replace the four screws to secure the LiDAR.

       

      Finalizing Installation 6:29

      • Ensure screws are not overly tightened to avoid damage:

        • Start all screws before tightening.

        • Tighten screws until they bottom out, then gently tap with a hammer to secure.

      Cautionary Notes

      • Avoid Over-tightening: Tightening screws too much can damage the LiDAR unit and require replacement.

      • Check for Play: Ensure the LiDAR is secured tightly to prevent data inaccuracies due to movement.

      • Organize Tools: Keep all necessary tools within reach to streamline the process.

      • Label Screws: Use a small container to keep screws organized and prevent loss during the process.

      • Document Issues: If problems are found, document them for future reference and troubleshooting.
