J100 Troubleshooting Battery

This article includes 3 videos on how to troubleshoot the J100 battery, while on the drone, on the charging station. To check the voltage of a drone battery, ensuring optimal performance and safety during operation.

Battery Troubleshooting ( While on the J100)

Key Steps

Check Battery Status 0:00

Understanding Cell Voltage 0:27

  • LiPo batteries should have even cell voltages.

  • A cell may be lower due to:

    • Over-discharge

    • Age or improper storage.

Access Battery Information 1:02

  • Connect to the drone through the device.

  • Navigate to the battery section in the device settings.

Check Individual Cell Voltages 1:11

  • Review the displayed cell voltages:

    • Ensure all cells are above 2 volts.

    • If any cell is below 2 volts, do not proceed with charging.

You can also check the cells voltage with a multi meter, Click here for article on this.

Identify Problematic Cells 1:40

  • Look for any cell reading significantly lower than others.

  • If a cell reads below 2 volts, consider the battery dead.

Disposal and Warranty 1:40

  • If the battery is deemed dead:

    • Dispose of it properly.

    • File for warranty replacement if applicable.

Next Steps for Charging 2:08

  • Refer to the bottom section of this document for charging instructions.

Cautionary Notes

  • Do not attempt to charge a battery with any cell below 2 volts as it may pose safety risks.

  • Always handle batteries with care to avoid damage or accidents.

Tips for Efficiency

  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place to prolong lifespan.

  • Keep a log of battery usage and performance to identify patterns.

Checking Individual Cell Voltages of Drone Battery (while on charging station)

Key Steps

1. Connect to the Charger via Bluetooth 0:15

  • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your drone.

  • Open the device charger app.

  • Click on the open area and select 're-scan' to search for charging stations.

2. Identify the Correct Charging Station 0:34

  • If multiple charging stations are present, identify the correct one by checking the LED lights under the power button.

  • Look for the battery serial number displayed.

3. Pair with the Charging Station 0:51

  • Click on the identified charging station to pair.

  • Wait for a notification confirming successful pairing.

4. Access Individual Cell Outputs 0:59

  • Scroll down to 'charge terminal detail' in the app.

  • View the individual cell outputs displayed in millivolts.

5. Check Voltage Levels 1:06

  • Ensure each cell voltage is between 4.1 to 4.2 volts.

  • If any cell is below 2 volts, do not attempt to charge.

6. Handle Low Voltage Cells 1:17

  • If a cell is below 2 volts, submit a warranty claim immediately.

  • Dispose of the battery safely and arrange for a replacement.

Cautionary Notes

  • Do not attempt to charge a battery with any cell below 2 volts. This can lead to instability and potential hazards.

  • Always follow safety protocols when handling batteries.

Tips for Efficiency

  • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled before starting the process to save time.

  • Familiarize yourself with the layout of the charging station and app interface to navigate quickly.

Key Steps

Power Supply Setup 0:16

  • Obtain a constant voltage power supply (recommended model available on Amazon).

  • Ensure the power supply is set to 52 volts and 2 amps.

Terminal Connection 1:07

  • Verify the positive and negative terminals of the battery.

  • Flip the battery upside down for easier access.

  • Connect the terminals to the battery, ensuring they are fully seated.

Gator Clip Connection 2:14

  • Connect gator clips from the power supply to the battery terminals.

  • Ensure clips are securely attached to avoid short-circuiting.

Powering On and Charging 3:30

  • Power on the battery by pressing and holding the power button until the red light activates.

  • Turn on the power supply output and confirm settings (52 volts, 2 amps).

  • Monitor the charging indicator on the battery.

Charging Completion 4:13

  • Charge the battery until it reaches approximately 80% (indicated by three solid lights and one flashing light).

  • Once charged, turn off the power supply output.

Final Steps 5:02

  • Power off the battery by pressing and holding the power button.

  • Disconnect gator clips and remove terminals from the battery.

  • Insert the battery back into the drone and run a cycle before charging it fully.

Cautionary Notes

  • Always double-check the voltage and amp settings before starting the charging process to prevent damage.

  • Avoid touching metal contacts to prevent short-circuiting the battery.

Tips for Efficiency

  • If possible, slow charge the battery for better longevity.
