J150 Pre Flight Checks

This article outlines the daily pre-flight checks required to ensure the J150 drone is fit to fly, focusing on props, motors, arm clamps, and cam locks.

Key Steps

1. Unfolding the Drone

  • Begin by unfolding the rear arms of the drone.

  • Proceed to unfold the front arms.

2. Checking Cam Locks

  • Start with the front cam locks.

  • Ensure the cam locks are secure:

    • If it feels loose, it may require tightening.

    • If it feels overly tight trying to lock, it is too tight and needs slightly loosened.

  • Use channel locks, an 8mm wrench, or vise grips to adjust the cam lock.

  • Turn the adjustment nut:

    • Clockwise to tighten.

    • Counterclockwise to loosen.

  • Make small adjustments (quarter turn) and check for tightness.

3. Checking Arm Connection

  • Inspect the connection between the arm and arm clamp.

  • Ensure there is no play when moving the arm up and down.

  • If there is play, tighten the 10mm nut using a wrench or vise grips.

4. Inspecting the Arm

  • Visually check the arm for any splits or damage.

5. Checking Props

  • Fold out the props:

    • They should fold out easily without excessive force.

    • If they are too tight, loosen them.

6. Tightening Props

  • Check for any wiggle in the props:

    • If too loose, tighten by a quarter turn until they are secure but still able to move freely.

7. Inspecting Motor Bearings

  • While checking props, wiggle them to feel for any movement in the motor bearings.

  • If you feel clicking or play, inspect the motor bearings.

8. Inspecting Prop Integrity

  • Check the leading and trailing edges of the props for cracks or chips.

  • Replace any damaged props immediately.

Cautionary Notes

  • Always ensure that all components are secure before flight.

  • Do not fly with cracked or chipped props as they can lead to failure during operation.

Tips for Efficiency

  • Keep tools (wrenches, grips) organized and easily accessible in the vehicle.

  • Develop a routine for checks to ensure nothing is overlooked before each flight.
