This article outlines the step-by-step process for replacing and installing the motor on the J150 to ensure accurate and efficient execution of the task.
Motor Replacement Procedure for J150
Key Steps
Step 1: Remove Foam Cover
-
Locate the 4 hex head screws (2.5mm) holding the foam cover.
-
Remove these 4 screws and carefully pull off the foam cover.

Step 2: Remove Blades and Mounting Bracket
-
Remove the propellers using a 6mm hex head for the top 2 bolts

-
Use a 5mm hex head for the lower bracket bolt.
-
Set the blades and mounting bracket aside for the installation of the new motor.

Step 3: Disconnect Motor from ESC
-
Locate the Motor ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) and loosen it using 4 hex head screws (3mm).
-
There are 2 screws on the top and 2 on the bottom that hold the esc to the bracket.
(Picture shown below).

-
Now that the ESC is removed from the bracket, disconnect the motor from the ESC by unplugging the 3 wires that connect the motor to the ESC (Yellow, Orange, Blue)
-
Note the position of the yellow connector as it determines motor rotation (clockwise or counterclockwise).
Step 4: Remove The Motor
-
Remove the motor by unscrewing the 4 hex head screws (6mm) located under the mounting bracket that hold the motor to the arm of the drone.
-
Ensure to keep the washers that come off with the motor.
Step 5: Install New Motor
-
Position the new motor, ensuring cables are at the end of the arm.
-
Reinsert the 6mm hex head screws and apply new Loctite before tightening the Motor back to the motor mounting bracket.
Step 6: Reconnect Motor Cables to ESC
-
Reconnect the Motor cables to the ESC correctly, depending on whether that motor should be wired as CW or CCW. Use the picture on the side of the ESC to determine what color plug goes where.
(Picture shown below)

-
Ensure all connectors are fully seated.
