Pump Replacement - AutoMixer v4

Follow this simple procedure to replace the peristaltic pumps on your AutoMixer v4!

  1. Unplug your AutoMixer from AC power to remove the risk of shock, spark, or component damage.
  2. Remove the 4 (or 3 for the small pump) M4 Phillips head bolts around the perimeter of the pump.
  3. Remove the pump from the AutoMixer housing, being careful to prevent snags onto the housing.
  4. The pump has three components - the pump, the motor, and the stepper driver. Remove the DC power and signal plugs from the driver to fully free the pump.
  5. Ensure that the replacement pump has the same address as the removed pump. If you do not see the same number address, you can peel back the green sticker on the stepper driver on both pumps, and change the dipswitch settings of the new pump such that they match the old pump.
  6. For the small pump, remove the gasket and place in on the new pump.
  7. Reconnect the signal and power wires on stepper driver.
  8. Reinstall the pump into the AutoMixer housing. You will need to fold the black stepper driver wire backwards to prevent it from getting caught between the motor and the housing.
  9. Reinstall the 4 (or 3 for the small pump) screws holding the pump onto the AutoMixer. Tighten each bolt evenly, so that the o-ring or gasket is seated flush.
  10. Finally, boot the AutoMixer back up and test the pump via the pump control menu.

Common Problems:

Problem: The pump seems poorly responsive to commands (it will respond, but in unexpected ways, such as the pump turns on but will not shut off, or a single pump switch via pump control controls multiple unconnected pumps).

Solution: This often happens when multiple pumps are set to the same address. This interferes with the AutoMixer's ability to communicate with the pumps, as multiple pumps will obey and respond to a single command. Ensure that the newly installed pump has the correct address.

asdfaFigure 1: Correct positions for the first 4 dipswitches depending on the desired address, given in the right hand column.

Problem: The newly installed pump will not turn on.

Solution: Verify that the green plug on top of the driver did not get unplugged during reinstallation. This plug carries DC power from the power supply to the stepper driver, and carries pulse current to the motor.
