Storage and winterization of J150, J100, and J70 batteries. 

Important Note: Storage damage on a flight battery is rarely obvious until the pack underperforms or fails a charge cycle. 

For planned off-season storage, put the pack away between 40% and 60%, not full and not empty. This matches both the EAVision manual and general lithium battery storage practice, so treat it as the target range regardless of chemistry-specific detail:

  • Never store a pack fully discharged. An over-discharged pack can suffer permanent cell damage that leaves it unusable — a charger will not bring it back. 
  • Never store a pack at 100% either. Sitting at a full charge for an extended period puts the cells under more voltage stress and accelerates aging.
  • A charger showing roughly half its indicator LEDs lit, or the J150 battery's own level display reading 45–65%, is in the right zone.

Check in on stored packs periodically rather than leaving them untouched for months. Every 1 to 3 months, check the level, and if it's drifted low, bring it back up into the 40–60% range and let it settle there again — don't leave it on the charger. For batteries sitting through a full off-season, err toward the shorter end of that interval.

Store the pack disconnected from the aircraft, in a dry place, out of direct sunlight and away from any heat source — not a closed truck cab in July, not near a furnace, a fire, or a generator exhaust. Set it on flat, level ground where nothing sharp can pierce the case and where it cannot tip over. These batteries are heavy, and a pack that tips and takes damage on the side needs to go straight to an open area away from anything combustible. Do not stack anything on top of a battery, do not use one as a seat or a step, and do not store or transport it alongside loose metal or anything flammable. Keep batteries away from water and out of reach of children.

Operating range is 0°C to 65°C, and charging or discharging below -5°C is prohibited. For storage specifically, keep the battery in a cool, stable environment roughly 10–25°C (50–77°F) — climate-controlled indoor storage rather than an unheated shed or trailer over a winter. 

Coming back out of storage, inspect before you charge. A swollen, leaking, or damaged pack is not to be used or charged — set it aside and contact ASD support. Otherwise, slow charge the battery and confirm the level is above 95% before the first flight. 

Store the cooling charger the same way you store the battery. Disconnect the battery cable and the power cord when the charger is not in use; keep it out of sunlight, rain, and humidity, and away from heat, high-voltage sources, corrosives, and flammable gases. Clean the cooling holes and check the power module for dust buildup before it goes back into service.
