Using Orbit Mission mode with Autel drone
Autel EVO Max Series – Orbit Mission Guide
Overview: What is the Orbit Function?
The Orbit mission allows the EVO Max aircraft to automatically circle a designated target while keeping the gimbal camera aimed at the center point. This mode is ideal for:
-
Capturing cinematic 360-degree visuals
-
Generating datasets for 3D reconstruction or photogrammetry
-
Inspecting structures from all viewing angles
Prerequisites
Before launching an Orbit mission, confirm:
-
Aircraft is powered on and linked to the remote controller
-
GPS signal is strong; aircraft is in GPS flight mode
-
Battery level is sufficient for the mission duration
-
The flight area is clear of obstacles and interference
Step-by-Step Orbit Mission Guide
Step 1: Takeoff and Positioning
-
Conduct pre-flight checks (compass, GPS, battery, props)
-
Manually take off and ascend to a safe height
-
Position the drone near the center point or where the orbit will begin
Step 2: Enter Orbit Mode
-
On the Autel Enterprise App, tap “Mission” > “Orbit”
-
The interface will prompt you to select the center point of the orbit
-
Tap on the map or use the aircraft’s current location as the orbit center
Step 3: Configure Orbit Parameters
-
Radius: Set how far the aircraft should orbit from the center point
-
Speed: Adjust the rotation speed around the point
-
Direction: Choose clockwise or counterclockwise flight path
-
Altitude: Confirm the flight height is above any known obstacles
-
The camera will lock onto the selected center point by default
Step 4: Start the Orbit Mission
-
Press “Start” to begin the automated orbit
-
The drone will fly in a smooth circular motion around the center
-
The gimbal will continuously track the center target
-
Once a full circle is completed, the mission will automatically stop
Step 5: Monitor the Mission
-
Watch the live video and telemetry in the Autel Enterprise App
-
Monitor battery level, GPS strength, and airspace around the drone
-
Be prepared to intervene if needed using the Pause button
Step 6: Mission Complete
-
The aircraft will automatically exit orbit mode once the circular path is complete
-
You may then choose to continue flying manually or initiate a return-to-home
-
Land the aircraft in a safe, designated area
Safety Tips
-
Maintain visual line of sight (VLOS) at all times
-
Ensure obstacle avoidance is turned on unless intentionally disabled
-
Avoid flying near power lines, buildings, or in high winds
-
Keep a clear landing zone available throughout the mission
